Make your image and title work together
This free thumbnail maker starts with one image you own or a plain background. The image fills the canvas with a centered crop. Type your title on two or more lines, choose a font, and adjust its size, color and position. A thin dark outline helps separate the letters from the background.
Use this thumbnail creator to make YouTube thumbnails you can check before publishing. Everything is drawn on your device; the download is a 1280 × 720 PNG. Open the result in the thumbnail tester to inspect it in smaller layouts.
Check the title at the size viewers see
In our October 10, 2026 browser measurements, thumbnail display widths ranged from about 215–528 px. At 215 px wide, 96 px type on a 1280 px canvas scales to about 16.1 px. The live readout above does that calculation for your chosen size.
Our 72 px canvas reference rounds up the calculated 71.5 px needed for about 12 px type in the smallest measured sidebar. It is a starting point for a visual check, not a guarantee of readable text.
The preview marks an estimated 277 × 143 px bottom-right duration area on this canvas. Keep important text away from it. Toggle the guide to compare; it is never part of the exported PNG.
These numbers come from our display-size observations and our text-size and duration-area calculations. They describe a limited set of logged-out browser layouts on one Mac, including phone browser emulation. They are not YouTube rules or measurements of phone or TV apps. What this editor supports
This YouTube thumbnail editor uses the same eight system-font choices as our font preview. No font files are downloaded. If a chosen font is missing from your device, the browser uses its fallback.
Static JPG, PNG and WebP only. Inputs are limited to 25 MiB (26,214,400 bytes) and 40,000,000 decoded pixels. Title sizes run from 12 to 240 px. If the full title does not fit, export pauses until you adjust it; text is not silently removed. Replacing the image or closing the page discards it from this page.
1280 × 720 is this editor's fixed 16:9 output, not a claim about YouTube's current recommended resolution. Check the size guide before uploading. There is no template library, and the tool does not predict clicks or audience response.
