ONE LINK. EVERY AVAILABLE SIZE.

YouTube thumbnail downloader.

Paste a video link or ID. View all available standard thumbnail sizes together, with actual pixels and an original JPG download for each.

Videos, Shorts, live links, youtu.be links, embeds, or an 11-character video ID. One video at a time.

Your image is processed in your browser and is never uploaded to any server.

Free, no login, and no usage count limit from ThumbGlance. Your browser requests images directly from YouTube; your link is not submitted to ThumbGlance.

How it works

This YouTube thumbnail grabber reads the video ID locally and builds the standard YouTube image addresses in your browser. As a YouTube thumbnail finder, it checks each address and decodes the returned image, so you can get YouTube thumbnail images with their measured width and height. This yt thumbnail grabber uses no fixed pixel label as a substitute for that measurement.

The five JPG variants checked are default, mqdefault, hqdefault, sddefault, and maxresdefault. The “download thumbnail from YouTube” step saves an available public image through its Download JPG button. This YouTube thumbnail saver keeps the returned JPG bytes without resizing, upscaling, or re-encoding; it is not a YouTube thumbnail converter. Some people search for a YouTube thumbnail stealer; this page only downloads public thumbnails. Looking to download YouTube thumbnail HD images? Pick the largest variant that loads; the page shows the measured size of each one, and not every video has the larger variants. People also call it a thumbnail grabber YouTube users can run in the browser: it reads only the public thumbnail of the link you paste.

Upload size vs. what you can get back

YouTube Help’s “Add custom thumbnails” page recommends uploading a custom video thumbnail at 3840 × 2160 pixels (checked October 21, 2026, UTC). What anyone can retrieve from the public image addresses is smaller. On October 21, 2026 (UTC) we requested default, mqdefault, hqdefault, sddefault, maxresdefault and hq720 for the three latest videos on four large channels (12 videos). The largest image returned was 1280 × 720: maxresdefault and hq720 both loaded at 1280 × 720 for 11 of the 12 videos, and one video had neither, so its largest image was sddefault at 640 × 480. None of the 72 requests returned a 4K image. A 3840 × 2160 upload therefore does not come back at that size from these public addresses; keep your own original file. Source: YouTube Help.

When a size is missing

Not every video has the larger variants. A missing image is marked “Not available”; it has no preview or download button. A connection failure is marked separately so you can retry. We do not replace a missing image with a smaller one and label it as larger.

The yt thumbnail downloader shows all available sizes among the five checked variants. A “get thumbnail from YouTube” request retrieves public thumbnail images, not video downloads or a promise to retrieve every custom image associated with a video. The YouTube video thumbnail grabber uses the same checks for Shorts; a YouTube Shorts thumbnail download can return an image that is not portrait-shaped.

Private input, direct image requests

The video link is parsed on your device by this YouTube thumbnail extractor, never sent to a ThumbGlance API, and never put in this page's URL. We do not keep your input in cookies, browser storage, or an account. Loaded images stay in this page's memory until you replace them or leave. Downloaded copies remain on your device.

Fetching a public image still contacts YouTube's image server, which receives the video ID in the image address and ordinary request information such as your IP address. The request sends no credentials or page referrer. Cloudflare serves this website, but does not proxy your image requests.
